The Singpost roadshow was so much fun. There were lots of laughter and entertainment. My partner was this chatty and cute girl. We slacked together in all sorts of ways , especially heading to the arcade nearby and played our common interest : daytona. The funniest part was that 1 consultant there was like trying to sweet-talk my partner and my partner was like ?!?! . Totally freaky. Fortunately , he didn't try anything funny otherwise I would have told him off. I mean , he failed in every basic aspects though he sure created lots of entertainment with his failed pick-up lines. I was there trying to control my laughter whenever that fellow tries his 'stunts' and looking at my partner's bewildered expressions made me really wanted to laugh out loud. It was hilarious. Laughter is the best medicine is not an understatement.
To say it is the best medicine , well for me at least because I was down with fever and flu. Finally , my body system gave way and forced me to give up a day's wages and signals to me that I am not made of machine. So well , rest I did and am on the road towards full recovery. I need to recover fast because I am going to do another safra roadshow for almost the whole of next week and my voice is crucial for me to pull in as many names as possible. Hopefully too , the mood to earn money is not affected next week.
The past weekend's SAFRA roadshow at Marina Square drained me out both mentally and physically.
Perhaps is due to a long-time absence from doing roadshows , I decided to take a much needed break from work -- in the process giving up a DBS bank roadshow interview.
The SAFRA roadshow I did at Marina Square was a blast. The carnival was happening and the turnout was good. Basically my job is to sweet-talk to people to persuade/convince them to sign up as SAFRA members. There is competition among us promoters because besides the basic hourly pay , there is also commission for every name signed up to our respective credits. It was rather competitive as a result but basically it is friendly. However , there is this particular short girl whose actions irk me. She just loves to go around asking people how are our sales etc. I mean , why compare? I believe that the most formidable enemy of a person is within himself/herself and I just try my very best to surpass the personal target of how many names I must secure (which I did eventually). She asked me quite a number of times till I couldn't tolerate longer and told her : "nah , mine incomparable to u lah , ur sales so good , you biggest winner mah" . Frankly , I had the very urge to tell this competitive bitch to shut the fuck up and get a life. Maybe I should be honoured because my business is quite good that's why she asked me but our main purpose is to promote membership to benefit those who signed up and for SAFRA to earn money. Is just a personal incentive to get the most names. It is not as if our pay is entirely commission-based. To her credit though , she is indeed a good sales person but what irritates me most is her actions. Since she likes to compare (bi3) so much , I can always buy for her lots of pens (bi3). If she likes , I can even present her a trophy to recognise her as the biggest winner. God , bitchy girls are such turnoffs.
There are numerous tips in doing roadshows. The most important and the very basic thing is to SMILE. Nobody likes sullen faces and most Singaporeans don't smile unless you smile at them first. Of course when I mean smile , I don't mean fake smiles ---- the kind one will show when being pulled up against a wall and smile just for the sake of smiling. Smile genuinely , smile as if you just manage to propose successfully to the girl of ur dreams or that you just struck the top prize of Toto/4-D. Secondly , eye contact is important. Besides smiling genuinely , you gotta bring out ur most sincere personality to impress people. Eyes are the windows of one's soul and always look at the person in the eyes when promoting stuffs , not wondering around --- not even when a cute girl caught ur attention. I don't mean staring , you will be punched as a result. Those with twinkling/sparkling eyes is a definite plus. Thirdly , know what you are promoting. Get on hand the knowledge of products you are selling and what are the incentives and benefits (particularly for Singaporeans , this is most important) the product is offering.
The rest...is really just depends on circumstances. Doing roadshows allow me to meet all kinds of people and to train my persuading/convincing skills. I am not born with the gift of gab so is good for me to train up. There are quite a few interesting scenerios which I personally encountered which I will share in the next entry.
Today is my last day of break and tml will be starting a new roadshow for Singpost. This time round is quite different from what I did for them 2 years ago. KBox later with my friend to unwind.
My current favourite quotes :
1 ) give yourself up , before I finish my meesiam (quoted from Police and Thief on TV last night)
2) you are so shuai4 , I am defeated by you ( quoted from Devil Beside You , in this case , shuai4 doesn't really mean handsome , but rather his style is really something that you gotta take ur hat off to him)
Better man , Better off - Tracy LawrenceThe hardest thing I'll ever do
Is to walk away still loving you
I'd give anything if you loved me
But some things just ain't meant to be
Can't say it's all been time lost
In the long run , I'll be a better man , better off
ChorusGonna find my pride , self esteem , get on with my life
Follow my dreams , ain't lookin' back
Learn from my mistakes , once I'm past this heartache
I know when the hurting stops , I'll be a better man , better off
I know Rome wasn't built in a day
And there's a lot of good memories in my way
If I had it to do over againI wouldn't change a thing , except for the endGonna be some pain , gotta pay the cost
But in the long run , I'll be a better man, better off
Chorus (Solo)I'm gonna learn from my mistakes
Once I'm past the heartache
I know when the hurting stops
A better man
A whole lot better off
1 week breakThis 1 whole week was spent resting and doing stuffs I enjoy doing normally when I am free. No assignments from the 'relevant authorities' so I seized the chance to catch up with several friends over pool , dinners and movie. Played pool 3 times this week and it was great fun. Glad that my skills are still there. Watched Fearless aka Huo Yuan Jia. Personally I feel that it is a great movie and yes I know that some people will feel otherwise because is actually fighting all the way from start till end. This movie has created quite a hype even before its premiere partly because the film is being acclaimed as Jet Li's last martial arts epic and partly because of the theme song with the same title written by Jay Chou. I love this song. In fact , I listen to this song almost everyday. Very Jay Chou style of distorted guitars and melancholic
er hus. 9/10 for this movie. Huo Yuan Jia is already available at KBox. I was excited and wanted to go and try out this song yesterday but my friend opted for pool instead. Well , hopefully I can squeeze in some spare time next week for some KBox sessions with my other KBox-crazed friends. It will be back to work again for the whole of next week. GSK requested for me only to extend for another 5 days. It means another 'backpacking' tour again but probably in another area. This is definitely great news , never mind that Valentine's Day I have to work. If things go according to plan saturday and sunday I should be doing another roadshow provided 1 of my agents don't cheat my feelings again.
Currently , all my assignments are all short-term. Of course I wanted to settle down on a long-term job but it looks like is rather impossible now. Army is beckoning in less than two months time and I can only pray that my agents arrange assignments to tide me over at least till end of march. The only thing good for short-term assignments is that I am still earning good money and my resume is boosted by the wide array of job experiences. The down side and also something which I hate most is that if I have no assignments I have to involuntarily break for days. Few days break is a welcome but 1 week break is rather a dread , especially when $ tends to fly out of the pocket with none coming in.
Finally , my hair is highlighted light brown mahogany. Actually this was done before Chinese New Year. Not really my choice of colour as it doesn't rightly align with my style because is rather conservative -- at least to me. Don't have a choice though , because I have to work and the colour cannot be too outlandish. Guess I still must be thankful that at least my hair is not a crop of unsightly black which I definitely can't stand.
